Damage From Hurricane Matthew at Flagler Beach, Floirda

Hurricane Matthew formed on September 28, 2016 off the coast of Africa.  Here's its projected path along the southern Atlantic Seaboard.

Hurricane Matthew's projected path along the Florida Coastline
in early October 2016 from NOAA.

When we arrived at Flagler Beach, Eric and I noticed some houses had damaged porches . Other houses have tarps on their roofs and missing soffiting.  Sections of Route A1A have new pavement. I found an article on Florida's shoreline damage in a local publication.

Flagler Beach after
Hurricane Matthew
blew through.

The storm washed out
sections of Route A1A in
 front of Flagler Chiropractic.

President Obama signed a Disaster Declaration on October 9, 2016 to provide federal funding to help Florida pay for the storm damage.

The newly paved section of
Route A1A in front of
Flagler Chiropractic has a
concrete barrier where the
the road shoulder used to be.

I found before and after US Geological Service photos of one section of the Flagler Beach.

This September 6, 2014 photo shows large rocks protecting the
dunes adjacent to Route A1A.

The October 13, 2016 picture shows the stones, most of the dunes & the
northbound lane of Route A1A are gone.

Florida and federal funding came through.  Flagler Beach is restoring itself and welcomes visitors.
