Offroading in the Ocmulgee Wildlife Management & Public Fishing Areas in Middle Georgia

There are many unpaved roads
in the Ocmulgee Wildlife
Management Area north
of Hawkinsville.

The Ocmulgee Public Fishing Area is nearby.   Access for fishing has been closed, but the roads are open for drivers.

Visitors aren't allowed to
excavate, collect or remove
artifacts from the state
owned lands.

Eric says his Mom could drive
her Buick on these roads.

There was probably a controlled
burn here years ago.

Fire weakened the base
of this tree.

Now it will wither
& die.

Mom & her Buick should
turn around.

This section of woods looks
like it's been decorated
for a party.

We pass a tilled field with
tree roots.

Just up the road are piles
of tree stumps that have
been recently pulled.

Eric is following a grassy
tract.

The bottom of this puddle
proved to be very soft.

We kicked up a lot of mud
going through it.

We drive through a
heavily rutted area.

This area has been
logged.

Eric looks carefully before we
cross the railroad tracks.

An old water tower
dominates the
landscape.

A grassy tract takes us
to a locked fence.

Eric drives the power lines
road to the entrance road.

We've driven all the unpaved
roads in the area.

Today's ride was fun.  The soft bottomed puddle was the only challenge and Eric easily handled the the the mucky situation.

After a quick wash at a quarter car wash, the Jeep will look presentable.
