They are known as the

"Bathroom Tile Buildings"

Locals and visitors agree that these are truly ugly buildings.

Massie School opened

its doors in 1856.

This is Savannah's

first public school.

This building now houses the Massie Heritage Center.  The Center preserves the Massie School and is open to the public as an interactive exhibit space and educational center.

The Old Chatham County
Courthouse was built
in 1889.

I was fascinated by the

entry on this side of

the building.

The Telfair Academy was
built in 1818 - 1819 for
Alexander Telfair.







The wealthy Telfair family includes Edward Telfair, Revolutionary War hero and Georgia governor. The family holdings consisted of plantations and mercantile outlets.  Mary, the last of the Telfairs, bequeathed this house and its furnishings to the Georgia Historical Society to be opened as a museum.
