Crater Lake National Park, Oregon

The landscape and geology of our country amaze me.  We turn a corner and see a different vista.  In South Central Oregon the land is shaped by volcanic activity.

Today Eric and I headed south to Crater Lake National Park and experienced views very different from The Big Obsidian Flow east of La Pine.

Getting anywhere is part of the fun.... Here are some of the signs along the way....

Eric swears the Do Not Enter sign is the largest one he's ever seen... He believes it's 10 foot square

As Eric says, signs are for stupid people.....

Crater Lake is that a way....

Rocky upheaval was replaced by pumice dessert.  We start to climb the mountain toward Crater Lake.  Again, there was a lack of Guide Rails along some of the steep drop-offs.

They don't need no stinking Guide Rails

Here's a map of the roads around Crater Lake
 with major viewing spots.

Crater Lake is so amazingly blue due the purity of the water.  It is 1,932 feet deep at it's deepest point.  It has no indigenous fish.  It was stocked with trout and salmon from the late 1800s through the 1940s.  You don't need a fishing license to fish here.  There are no limits for the fish caught.  You can keep the fish you catch.

I've been told the color of the water is azure

See the precipice to the left, Eric and I
walked out there to take pics.

Our mascot, Gomtuu, enjoyed
our trip to Crater Lake

..... and we're on our way home
to Cascade Meadow RV Resort
