The Peachoid: Gaffney's Distinctive Water Tower

The Peachoid, seen from
Interstate 85, is Gaffney's
world famous water tower.








Trucks are parked in a crude circle around the base of the Peachoid.  Poles protrude from the water tower.  Men, on scaffolds, are working on the Peachoid's luscious surface.  Last year's harsh winter weather caused its paint to peel.  The Peachoid will be sandblasted and repainted.

The Netflix series, House of Cards, introduced viewers to the Peachoid in Season One, Episode Three.  Congressman Frank Underwood returns to his hometown of Gaffney, South Carolina, to negotiate a settlement with bereaved parents who are suing the city after their daughter's death. The deceased 16 year old lost control of her car while texting about the Peachoid and crashed her car. Her overwhelmed parents want someone to pay for their loss.  Underwood's negotiations with the parents avert a public trial and possible large financial loss to the City of Gaffney.

On May 21, 2015, fellow fulltime RVer, Dave, facebooked this link to me.  Apparently, The Peachoid has been the butt of jokes over the years.  One particular view of the water tower does look like a human derriere.  Some are hoping that the renovation and new paint job will make that particular view look less "butt-like."
