A Surprise Lay Ahead on Old Maverick Road in Big Bend Park







We turned on to Old

This is one of the improved dirt
roads in Big Bend National Park.




The cold rain isn't keeping us from our day's drive.   Beep, beep!  According to the dashboard indicator, one of the tires has low pressure.  Eric stops to check this out.









We have a flat tire.

There's a cut in the sidewall.




The dashboard indicator saved the tire rim from being damaged.  Eric stopped the Jeep with air in the deflating tire - no riding on rim and damaging it.









Eric gets out the tire wrench
& the jack.








He places the jack under the
axle & starts to raise it.








Eric loosens lug nuts until
I can unscrew them by hand.








The tire is changed & we are 
adding air to the spare in
less than 30 minutes.




Eric conquered the toughest road in Big Bend National Park - Black Gap Road, with standard road tires. After that feat we continued to drive unimproved dirt roads in the Park.  Eric thinks that the sidewall was cut on by one of the rocks on Paint Gap Road., and the tire went flat.  

We worked together to change the tire, attach the flat on the back of the Jeep, air up the tire and get back on the road quickly.  We make a great team!
