A Soak at the Hot Spring in Big Bend National Park

The Hot Spring area has been used
by people for thousands of years.

Pictographs from an unknown
Native American tribe are
found on the rock face.

J.O. Langford came to this part of Texas from Mississippi in 1909 seeking the curing hot spring water to alleviate his recurring malaria symptoms.

Knowing others would seek
the hot spring waters for health
issues, Langford built a motor
court for visitors.

A Post Office & store was built
 to accommodate visitors
to the hot spring.

The hot spring bubbles up at
the edge of Tornillo Creek.

We soak & enjoy the
morning sunshine.

The water in this shallow pool
is 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

Eric reads the National Parks
District brochure.

Ending our soaks, we find we are refreshed by the cooler morning air.
