Preparing for Our Trip to Ometepe Island

We have a beautiful view of Ometepe Island from the beach house at La Virgen.  Julian and Emma told us of the towns that sit at the base of Concepcion and Maderas Volcanoes.  There are Aztec statues to visit and spots to take beautiful pictures.  Hiking the volcanoes is best done with a guide, as there are often reports of lost hikers on Concepcion.  Ferries leave from the port at San Jorge for Moyogalpa on Ometepe Island.  It's best to get a reservation for the ferry and spend the day visiting the island.

San Jorge is easy to navigate.  Drive in as far as you can, take a left and find the port area.  A local man showed us where to park and brought us to the Island Tours Office.

We worked with Hector Arguello
on ferry reservations for the next
day & paid for a guide to provide
a tour of the island.

Antonio speaks some English &
this will be very helpful for us.

Our cost for the car and two people for the ferry will be 820 Cordoba or $32.80 American.  There is a tax on the car at the Ports of San Jorge and Moyogalpa of 81 Cordoba or $3.25 American at each port.

We have reservations to leave at
7 am on Ferry El Che.  We will
leave Ometepe Island on the
5:30 pm ferry.

Tomorrow we will visit petroglyphs,
eat lunch at Hotel Villa Paraiso, see
Aztec idols, swim at Ojo de Agua
& hike at Charco Verde.

Hector's daughter posed
for this poster.

He's very proud to have
her help advertise
Ometepe Island.

Eric and I have the reservations for the ferry, know about the taxes we will pay for the car at each port and have a guide who will meet us at Moyogalpa and tour the island with us.  We will be on line for the ferry at 6:00 am.  Can't wait!
