Driving Around Northern Iowa: A Stop in Algona

I put Algona on our list
of places to visit in
Northern Iowa.

During World War II there was a German POW Camp in the area.  Camp Algona was razed years ago, and a Museum was developed to memorialize the experience for the transplanted German Soldiers and Iowans of the era.

Loretta Ellsworth's Stars Over Clear Lake is the fictional account of a romance between a young woman, Lorraine Kindred,  and a German POW.   and her experiences in The Surf Ballroom

POW Museum, which is
closed because of Covid 19.

We can visit some other time because our motorhome will need repairs at Winnebago in Forest City sometime in the future.

Eric turned into the parking lot across the street from the Museum.

We are delighted to find this colorful "back alley."

the far end of the parking lot.

This historic building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
