Dinner @ The Gloucester House in Gloucester, Massachusetts

Welcome to Gloucester
America's Oldest Seaport
1623

This trip to Gloucester is a walk down memory lane for Eric and me.  We camped in Annisquam, a neighborhood in this sprawling city, in 1977, went Deep Sea Fishing on a Yankee Fleet boat and toured the area.  Taken by the mix of beauty and watching Commercial Fishing Boats off load their catch, Eric and I decided to honeymoon here the following year.

Four hours from Schenectady, Gloucester is the place we've chosen to return to and make more memories throughout our marriage.

In 1978 we dined at
The Gloucester
House.

Forty years ago the restaurant was upscale and people dressed up to dine here.  Eric wore his Leisure Suit and I wore a floor length black dress.

Over the years the Gloucester
House morphed into casual
family style dining to later
feature a menu & floor
plan like Friendly's.

Let's explore Gloucester House 2018 and have a meal.

The restaurant is proud of
the Port's fishing history
& culture.

Many young men from this region went to the harbor looking for work.  They shipped out on Commercial Fishing boats and braved the treacherous sea to catch Cod, Haddock, Halibut and Flounder to earn a living.

The Joseph & Lucia III was one of
many wooden ships that fished

The Deep-Sea Diver's helmet makes me think of underwater exploration.

The bar is busy.

One of the dining rooms is
set up for small groups.

A painting of The Gloucester
House hangs above a
fireplace.

We each get a glass of wine and recount our visits to Gloucester and The Gloucester House.  Eric and I returned here for our tenth, twentieth and thirtieth wedding anniversaries.

We broke the "anniversary rule" and brought our children, Adam and Diane, with us one year .  While ordering dinner here, the server discouraged nine year old Adam from getting Swordfish Steak.  Eric assured her that Adam was making a great choice and thanked her for her concern for him.

Eric's Fish & Chips,

A close up of my dinner.

Our meals are delicious.  Eric eyed my dinner and wished that he'd made a different choice.

I thank Eric for a lovely dinner
full of reminiscences
of our life together.
