People continue to hike to this bus. The latest news story is that five hikers were rescued on their return trip from the bus.
*** June 19, 2019 Update: The Alaska Department of Natural Resources determined that the bus, located near Healy, draws people into danger in the Alaska wilderness as they retrace Christopher McCandles' ill-fated Alaska adventure.
A significant number of visitors to the bus located on the Stampede Trail have been rescued by Alaska's Mountain Rescue Association since the mid-1990s. Some have died attempting the trip. The Alaska National Guard removed the bus by air. It will be held in a secure location until another site is selected for its display.
