Strolling Downtown Kennett Square, Pennsylvania

I knew that Mushrooms are a major Agricultural Product in Pennsylvania, but had no idea that this area is the epicenter for Mushroom growing.   Eric and I have driven past nondescript white warehouses in this area, never imagining these climate-controlled buildings are "Mushroom Farms."

I like the different architectural

Innovation is a major part of Kennett Square's history.  In the late 1800s, William Swayne, decided to use the space beneath the Carnation Benches in his Green House benches to grow a second crop - Mushrooms.

He ordered the Spawn, mycelium from a Mushroom Culture, from England to start a new farming venture on his property.  The rest, as they say, is history.

Row Houses

I almost walked past the
Lodge without noticing

This narrow house sits
one block in from East
State Street.

It may be the last of a
series of Row Houses.

Kennett Square manages to balance history and modern life.  I can see why it's a popular place to visit in Chester County.
