Minuteman Delta 09 Missile Silo Site Near Philip, South Dakota

Silo is northwest of Delta 01

This display compares the length
of a Tyrannosaurus Rex, the
60-foot-long Minuteman
Missile & four sedans.

The Minuteman Silo has a
glass enclosure for visitors
to view a decommissioned
Missile.

Looking down into the Silo.

At the height of the Nuclear
Arms Race over 65,000
Nuclear Weapons were built.

The START Treaties of 1991 and 1993 created timelines for disarming and dismantling of thousands of Nuclear Missiles and Warheads.

Many thousands of Nuclear Weapons have been destroyed.  Missile Silos were imploded and filled in.  And, today, over 12,000 Nuclear Weapons remain.

This Minuteman Missile Silo, the Delta 01 Command Launch Command Center, and the Minuteman Missile Historic Site and Visitor Center preserve the dark, fearful decades of The Cold War and the Nuclear Arms Race.
