Dinner @ Cagney's Steakhouse on The Pride Of America Cruise Ship





Eric & I are dining at
tonight.








Our fellow diners





We meet our waiter, Michael.  He asks us for special requests. Eric asks for two glasses of Tempranillo Wine.




Eric & his first Appetizer
is Tuna Tartare

It's fabulous!




His second Appetizer is
Lobster Bisque.

Eric said, "This is the best
thing I have ever put in
my mouth."








My Lettuce Wedge is topped with
 Vegetables, Bacon & Blue Cheese
 Dressing.

This is a great choice for me.






Eric's Porterhouse Steak,
Broccoli & a Baked Potato

My Surf & Turf is served 
with Broccoli & Whipped
Potatoes. 









Eric and I share samples from our meal.  Eric's Porterhouse Steak is cooked perfectly.  The Broccoli is crunchy and the Baked Potato completes his meal.   My Petite Filet Mignon is cooked to my specifications and my Lobster Tail is delightful.  The Broccoli and Whipped Potatoes are prepared the way I like them.  

Cagney's reputation for high-quality Steaks and quality meals continues.  We are delighted to recommend this Steakhouse to others booking Cruises on The Pride Of America.  

The Maui Gold Pineapple Experience in Kahului, Hawaii

For our second day in Maui, Eric and I chose The Maui Gold Pineapple Experience Tour.  





Our bus arrives for the





Quonset Huts are all that
remain of the former
military property.

All the Pineapples grown here stay in Hawaii.  The Crops are bought up by Restaurants, Grocery Stores, and visitors across the Hawaiian Islands.

Farm Hands are harvesting a
field of Pineapple.

Workers wear multiple layers
of clothes to protect themselves
from the spiny fruit.





Maui Gold Pineapples are picked by hand to ensure quality fruit for customers.

It takes 18 months for a Maui Gold Pineapple to mature.  

In the 17th and 18th centuries, Pineapples signified wealth, generosity, and hospitality.

Eric and I had a wonderful time at the Maui Gold Pineapple Farm today.  We learned about Pineapple Farming, Harvesting, and ate the freshest Pineapple straight from the field.

The View of Maui from Our Balcony on The Pride Of America






I take pictures from the Balcony.








Eric stands nearby and then walks into our Stateroom,





He returns with his 
binoculars & tells
me what he sees.















I see Sailboats & Kites.








Those Kites are for Kitesurfing.  It's time to read about this Sport.

Eric and I enjoy the quiet late afternoon after our Authentic Tastes of Maui Tour. 

Authentic Taste of Maui Tour with Andre

Eric purchased our Excursions early to ensure that we will have lots of interesting things to do,  Today we are experiencing The Authentic Taste of Maui.




Andre is our Tour Guide for
today's "Eat Like a Local
Adventure."












Andre and his wife moved to Maui just seven months ago, and are busy working and sharing Maui's wonders with family and friends.

Our tour focuses on local businesses.  Many of our stops are at some of Maui's oldest food shops,




Our first stop is





Eric and I married in 1978 and our Wedding Reception was at American Legion Post 1005 on Van Velson Street in Schenectady, NY.  The property is now part of the CVS on Chrysler Avenue






This Bakery has been serving
Maui since 1960.



Loaves of bread, next
to the door are ready for
 grab & go purchases.












We are sampling Home Maid Bakery's most famous small-sized pastries.





The center of this traditional 
Japanese pastry's center is 
creamy sweet Azuki Beans.

Yum!








chewy Rice center.

Heavenly!





Malasada is "poorly cooked dough."

This is a Hawaiian Favorite.

As Fried Dough Fans, Eric &
I are delighted! 






"World Famous Pancakes"












Locals and visitors have been dining here since the early 1940s.






It's around 9: 30 am &
the diner is quiet..






We sample Tasty Crust's famous
Banana Pancake.

It's amazing!






Eric & I know about Loco Moco.
We love this tasty, hearty food.

deliciously unique -
The pasta is cooked longer & 
there's LOTS of Mayonnaise.




Chicken Katsu, made with Panko
Breadcrumbs is Hawaii's version

Macaroni Salad is the perennial
Side Dish.





What's another word for tasty and delicious?  The Hawaiian Word is Ono...  Delicious, Pleasurable, Good Eats...
There is a lot of Ono Food and more to come.  We have six stops for tastings.





TJ's Warehouse started as an
onsite Bento Box Vendor for 
Employees of Maui Paper






TJ's grew to become a large Chinese Market and Catering Business that is open to the public.  





The store is open from
 7 am to 8 pm.












I walk up and down the aisles quickly to get pictures of the many Asian foods and products here.  There are too many pictures for a Food Tasting Blog.





We are here to pick up three
different kinds of Poke
(cut-up fish) at the 
Bento Counter.




I chose to share the large
assortment of Rice
available at TJ's.







I have no concerns about eating Raw Fish because the FDA requires all of the Fish that is to be consumed Raw in the US must be flash-frozen before it can be it is moved to restaurants and stores.

We get onto the bus and continue to Ululani's Shave Ice.  There is shaded seating nearby for our Poke samples.





Ahi Poke is marinated & served
with Onions & Green Onions.

This is light, tasty, & delightful!


Spicy Ahi Poke is served in
Creamy Spiced Sauce served
with Green Onions

If you like your Ahi hot, this
is for you.

It's great!







Cooked Octopus served
in Sesame Oil & Soy
Sauce with Chili & other
spices.  

I like the texture & love
the flavors!






Eric at Ululani's Hawaiian
Shave Ice with our
shared Shave Ice.






Don't compare Shave Ice to a Sno-Cone made with crushed Ice.  The way the Ice is prepared makes two totally different icy treats.  And Shave Ice has more flavors than Sno-Cones.




Ice is lightly flavored &
has a smooth texture.

It's the perfect palate cleanser
following our Ahi & Tako
tastings.




Andre tells us about living on Maui, the island culture, and Hawaiian History and Mythology as he drives us to different stops on the Tour.

Wet Tea & Banana Leaves.





The Seared Cabbage soaks up the liquid from the Pulled Pork and the results are culinary magic!   Add your choice of Sauce and enjoy!

I was so busy eating and talking with others on the Tour that I forgot to take a picture of the Chicken Chow Fun.  The picture I added is from Onolicious Hawaii.

Eric's Coconut Hiwa Porter
were chosen to accompany
our Hebi (Local Catch) Taco
made with Cabbage, Guacamole,
& Jalapeno on a Corn Tortilla.  








Eric and I enjoy our beers.  The Coconut Hiwa Porter is robust with hints of Mocha.  My Pineapple Mana is smooth-bodied and pairs beautifully with our deliciously constructed Taco.

As we wait for Andre to pull the bus around for us I think about how to describe the Authentic Taste of Maui Tour.  Our Food Experiences were carefully chosen to share Maui's best foods with Tour Groups.  

Andre educated us with interesting stories about living on Maui, its history, culture, and the stories that support and nurture Hawaiians, native-born, and transplants.

Eric and I agree that the Authentic Taste of Maui Tour is not to missed!
