Another Early Start... Our Drive West to Santa Fe, New Mexico

Boise City, Oklahoma became nationally known, overnight...  This small city, in the middle of America, was bombed during World War II.

At 12:30 am on July 5, 1943, a B-17 Flying Fortress from Dalhart Army Airfield in Texas mistook the lights of Boise City for its target, a practice bombing range.  The B-17 dropped six practice bombs on the sleeping city.  No one was hurt, but residents were badly shaken.

This story is why I love to travel.  Our route happened to take me past a small Oklahoma city with an amazing story.  I love finding unusual, obscure American stories as Eric and I travel the country.
