Land was donated for
the Old State Capitol
in 1847.
Construction was
completed in 1852.
Designed by
this Gothic Revival building
sits atop a bluff overlooking
the Mississippi River.
This Capitol was so different that
Mark Twain made fun of it.
The Old State Capitol became a
museum in 1994.
As a cost cutting measure,
this museum & other state
museums have been closed
on Mondays.
