Since 1968, the National Congress of American Indians has been addressing stereotyping of Native Americans in the media. High school and college sports teams have changed their names and shelved Indian mascots in an effort to stop stereotyping indigenous peoples. Some descriptions of Native Americans are officially determined to be derogatory and are not used in public places etc.
Professional sports teams, including the Washington Redskins, have refused to consider changing the team's name or logo.

skies cleared & we
crossed into Ohio.
We drive along Corporal
Joshua Harmon
Memorial Highway.
Corporal Harmon was killed in a Black Hawk helicopter crash in Iraq in 2007.
On to Cleveland...

A quick internet search answered our question. The sign forbids the transport of Hazardous Cargo on this road.
Eric & I are taking the left
hand turn to avoid driving
in downtown Cleveland.
The Cleveland Indians baseball team plays here. The team's current owner, Larry Dolan, chose not to change the team's name or its mascot, despite the urging Ohio State Senator Eric Kearney and Native Americans.

Route.

miles away.

We arrive at Erie Islands
Resort & Marina for a
return visit.
Eric and I stayed here for a week last August. We will be using Erie Islands Resort and Marina as a "base camp" as we continue to explore northern Ohio.
