Tony Packo's Cafe in Toledo, Ohio: The Place Corporal Max Klinger Made Famous

With a few ad-libbed lines, Jamie
Klinger, from M*A*S*H TV series,
 made Tony Packo's Cafe famous.

In the February 24, 1976 episode of M*A*S*H, a television reporter asked Corporal Klinger about his home town.  Klinger replied, "If you're ever in Toledo, Ohio, on the Hungarian side of town, Tony Packo's got the best Hungarian hot dogs.  Thirty-five cents..."   A neighborhood mainstay, the cafe started hosting M*A*S*H fans, and celebrities.

Tony Packo's caters too.

The menu includes Hungarian

The most popular item on the menu is Tony's Hungarian Hot Dogs.

The cafe has seating on
several levels.

Many famous people have visited and autographed buns.

Joan Rivers also autographed
a photo & bun for Tony.

In 2005, it was revealed that many of the autographed hot dog buns are fake.   Foam buns are easier to autograph and don't deteriorate.  The artificial hot dog buns had been signed by visitors since the 1980s.

Eric and I were warmly welcomed at Tony Packo's Cafe.  We enjoyed visiting Corporal Klinger's favorite hometown eatery. I loved wandering around the restaurant and reading the signatures on hot dog buns.  Everyone who's anyone has visited here since 1976 and signed a bun.
