A Second Day in Yosemite National Park in California

Yosemite National Park
in late October

Eric & I drove Tioga Road
across the Park.

This road climbs to over 9,500 feet, and the views are spectacular!

covered mountain

A rugged mountain with snow
clinging to its craggy face.

Trees somehow manage to
grow out of smooth rock.

Eric & I stop at Olmstead Point.

It commemorates Landscape Architect Frederick Law Olmstead's efforts to preserve Yosemite's natural resources.  His son, Frederick Law Olmstead, Jr. was dedicated to conservation and worked on Yosemite Park's Advisory Board to help Park Managers solve problems.

This section of Yosemite National
Park shows the effects of the last
Glacier...

A scored rock face is dotted with
boulders that were left behind
as the Glacier receded.

Here we are at Tenaya Lake.

It was formed by the

Eagle-eyed Eric spotted the
Great Blue Heron in the lower

It blends into its surroundings.

The Eastern Access to
Yosemite National Park

President Abraham Lincoln signed a bill on June 30, 1864 establishing Yosemite Valley and  Mariposa Grove as protected wilderness areas.  His wisdom and foresight are the foundation of the establishment of the National Parks System in the United States.

Lee Vining is the closest town to this section of the Park.
