Our Driver's Side Windshield Is Replaced at the Campground in Bridgeport, Texas

First, the back story:  Eric discovered a 15-inch crack in the Driver's Side Windshield on November 5.  Our Vehicle Insurance includes Glass Coverage, ensuring that we have no out-of-pocket costs for replacement.

Safelite Repair arranged with a local Auto Glass Company that does Mobile Work to replace the Windshield.  It arrived at G2 Auto Glass near Fort Worth, and the November 25 Mobile Appointment was made.

Two trucks arrive at Thousand

Our new Driver's Side Windshield
was transported in a separate
truck.

A cloth was brought into
our Motorhome to cover
the Dash Board.

The G2 Techs set up their
 Work Platform.

The front Trim comes off
the motorhome.

The G2 Auto Techs know their way around motorhomes.  They know where each piece of Trim is attached behind the Motorhome's front end.

The Washers & Nuts are put back
on each Threaded Trim Mount.

No Fasteners will be lost during
 this job.

The Windshield Wipers
are being removed.

They are safely stored beneath
 the carpeted Work Platform.

Rubber Trim is removed
from the Split Windshield.

The Rubber Trim at the top
of the Windshield is pulled
back.

A Special Tool is used to loosen
the Windshield's seal to the
Frame of the Motorhome.

A Power Tool with an end that
looks like an Icing Knife is
 used to loosen the seal
 from the inside.

The top of the Windshield has
been detached  from its
watertight seal.

The cracked Wind Shield is out.

And removed from the Work Area.

Eric & I have never seen
a Windshield Replacement
for our Motorhome.

The previous three Windshields were replaced at Winnebago in Forest City, Iowa in 2013 and 2015.  Motorhomes are brought into Work Bays and Windshields are replaced while owners wait or visit local attractions.

The Dashboard Cloth is fitted into
the groove at the top of the
Windshield.

A Grinding Wheel is used to remove
the old adhesive & expose the bare
metal.

This is where the new adhesive
will be applied.

The new Windshield makes its
appearance.

The interior of the Windshield
is prepped for installation.

Painting the exposed Metal Frame
prevents corrosion & ensures a
proper seal between the
 Windshield & the Frame.

Installing the grooved piece that
holds the top piece of Rubber
Windshield Trim.

Applying the Windshield Adhesive
with an Electric Calking Gun.

The prepped Replacement is
 brought to the Work Platform.

It is carefully placed on the
 prepped Metal Frame.

Pressing the new Windshield
against the top of the Metal
Frame.

Every edge of the Windshield is
 carefully pressed against the
 Frame.

One last check before removing
the Suction Cup Handles.

Reattaching the top Rubber Trim.

Reattaching the Rubber Trim
between the Split Windshields.

The lower Trim is refastened.

The Windshield Wipers are
being reconnected.

Our new Windshield looks
 great!

It looks even better on
sunny days.

Thank you, Safelite Repair and G2 Auto Glass for our new Driver's Side Windshield.  Eric and I are very pleased with the results!

The Fort Worth Stockyards is a National Historic District.

The Chisolm Trail was a major route for Cattlemen moving their Herds from South Texas to northern markets in the mid through the late 1800s.  After the Railroad arrived in Fort Worth in 1876, the City's Stockyards became the hub for the Texas Cattle Industry.
