Following the Mississippi River South to Sikeston, Missouri

We cross the Mississippi River...




... into Illinois.





This section of the road runs
 along The River.

Up ahead is Fountain Bluff.







We stop at the National
Great Rivers Museum.





The Great River Road turns
East toward Saint Louis.





This is the Stan Musial
Veterans Memorial Bridge.





The eastern bank of the River






Missouri Welcomes You





Eric follows our GPS through
Downtown Saint Louis
toward the River.










The Eads Bridge will take
Eric & me to Illinois.





The western bank of the
Mississippi River & the
Saint Louis Arch.











It's time to cross anothe
bridge.

Eric & I return to Missouri.











The GPS directs us onto
Interstate 55 South.







We are crossing the Mississippi
River again.







This section of the River has many bridges.






A barge traveling South.





And, we are back in 
Illinois.








Chester is a small city on The Great River Road.  





That's an interesting statue.














Eric found a place to park so I could walk along the sidewalk to get pictures.





That looks like Olive Oyle
holding Swee Pea.













While I take pictures Eric checks the internet.  Chester, Illinois is the hometown of E.C. Segar, the creator of Popeye the Sailor Man.  We are driving on the Popeye/Character Trail.

Illinois State Route 3 is
The Great River Road,
the South Branch of the
Lincoln Heritage Trail
& it's an America's
Byways Road.  






We cross another Cable
Strung Bridge.











Sand stretches south along the
Illinois bank of the River.







Missouri welcomes us, again.





We return to Interstate 55
South for our drive to the
Walmart in Sikeston, 
Missouri.
