UpdateS on Rotterdam Square Mall in Rotterdam, NY: January 2016

I read my local papers every day while Eric and I are traveling.  One of my favorite topics is Rotterdam Square Mall.

Rotterdam Square Mall has been struggling for years.

Since the sale in March 2015 to Via Properties, three more stores have announced that they are closing by January 31.  Tuillio Hair Studio, Matthew's Hallmark and Things Remembered joined a long list of stores leaving Rotterdam Square Mall.

Not all change at Rotterdam Square Mall is negative...

A January 8, 2016 Daily Gazette article announced the mall's name is changing to Viaport Rotterdam. The 25,000 square foot aquarium is slated to open at the end of February.

One of my first stops when Eric and I return to Rotterdam in the spring will be a visit to Viaport Rotterdam to walk around the mall and visit the aquarium.

Springtime in Rotterdam, New York: A Walking Tour

I went for a walk with my
camera today.

I just love trees in bloom.
It's allergy season, I know,
but it's so beautiful!

Searching for Spring in Rotterdam, New York

Winter turned to spring in Upstate New York and "warmer temperatures" arrived.  By late April, the daily temperatures ranged though the 40s and sometimes into the 50s.  The nights were cold... in the low 30s.

Avenue is being rebuilt.

The trees remain bare.

This house has been empty

since a fire in 2015.

The fire damage has been

cleared away.

Large bushes have been
cut down.

This large addition is

under construction.

I'm happy to see this house be renovated for a new family.

People take advantage of
a sunny day to do yard
work.

I'm glad to see a tree getting ready to leaf out.

& gets lots of passersby.

Land has been cleared on

Edgewood Avenue.

I think more townhouses
will be built here.

unoccupied since

last spring.

This house is being rehabbted

& expanded for owners.

There's lots of windows 

to allow in sunlight.

I found Daffodils at the

Rotterdam Library.

Now all I want to see is more flowers in every springtime color.

This shrub is budding.

Spring is arriving....

April Showers Bring

May flowers.

 Warmer weather is on the way....  I want to see leafy green trees, leafy and flowering shrubs and flowers, everywhere....

News From Home... The Fun Zone @ ViaPort Rotterdam (Rotterdam Square Mall) Is Now Open

Rotterdam Square Mall became

 ViaPoint Rotterdam, following

it's sale to Via Properties

in June 2015.

By July, a building permit had

been issued for the new owners

to construct an Aquarium &

Fun Zone.

The Fun Zone will have bowling lanes and a wide assortment of arcade games.  ViaPort Entertainment plans to open a comedy club, sports bar, party room and lounge.  The Social House will be providing a varied menu for visitors.  

According to a February 27,

2016 Daily Gazette article,

the Fun Zone hosted an Open

House on February 19 & is

now open to the public.

The 26,000 square foot Aquarium is expected to open by May.

Eric and I look forward to visiting ViaPort Rotterdam after we return home in the spring. The Fun Zone is a unique entertainment venue in western Rotterdam.  The Aquarium will be the first of its kind in the Capital District.  

Spring is Here! in Rotterdam, New York

Winter didn't want to leave the Northeast.  Weekly snowstorms barreled through New York State in March, and then cold gripped this region of the country.  When Eric and I arrived in Rotterdam late April, daytime highs were in the 40s and occasionally the low 50s.  Nighttime temperatures dropped into the low 30s.  Spring was on hold....

April turned into May and daytime highs moved into the 70s and sometimes the 80s.  Spring burst forth....





This Magnolia Tree is
filled with tight buds.

Shrubs suddenly loom.

Birch Trees are leafing

out.

stark contrast to the
 decaying Taylor &
 Vadney Sporting
 Goods Store that
 burned on

November 4, 2017.

Tulips bloom....

this tree remind me of snow.

The Daffodils are out.
