The Brewery Tour @ Abita Brewing Company in Abita Springs, Louisiana

Demand for Abita Beers has led to expansion and innovations in the brewing process.

But first, the Basics of Brewing....

Water, Brewer's Yeast,
Specially Selected Malts
& Pellet Hops

Abita's water comes from the Southern Hills Aquifer System.  Conserving natural resources and reducing pollution are important to this innovating company.  Solar panels cover the roof of the massive Brewery.  Abita also invested in the energy efficient Merlin Brewing System which uses less energy; produces fewer emissions and improves the brewing process.

Everything starts
with grains.

been cleaned & ready for a
new Brewing run.

Brewers at Abita love to innovate.  Experimental beers are brewed and, if they pass inspection and tastings from the staff, they are served in the Tasting Room.  Visitors are encouraged to provide feedback on the new brews.

process & equipment...

There are more steps in the brewing process.  We follow Kelsey to see more of the brewery....

The Yeast Room...

Yeast is reused at Abita
6 times before it is
discarded.

These containers hold more
beer than tour group
members can drink
in a month.

The bottling system is automated.  Abita uses recycled glass to make its bottles and they contain 20% less glass than other beer bottles on the market.

Bottled beers are put in 6 packs and wrapped in plastic for transport.  Abita Beers are available in 40 states and 10 countries.  The full selection of beers isn't available in the Tap Room because Abita supports local distributors and the local businesses that carry its beers.
