Hot Rides On The River Show @ Martinez Lake, Arizona: The Motorcycles

Three motorcycle owners displayed their rides at Hot Rides on the River...

I marvel at the artistry and mechanical skill of each unique motorcycle.

Hot Rides On The River Show @ Martinez Lake, AZ: The Customized 1953 Studebaker Commander

I found a gem at the Hot Rides on the River Show...  After you read through this post, tell me if it's unique or a tarnished gem.

I spent a long time walking around the 1953 Studebaker Commander and examining its features.

My first impression is that
the car is sleek looking,
unlike the familiar rounded
edges that are Studebaker's
signature look.
.

It has a V8 engine.

Look closely at the
chevron  above
the license plate.

Its hood is long...
like other 1950s
cars.

The top has been replaced, with
a smaller rear window.

The fins are the second custom
feature.

I have another surprise.  I thought tail fins on cars were introduced in 1957.  Wrong!  Cadillac introduced the tail fin on the 1948 Cadillac 62 Coupe deVille.

I think the rear end with the
external tire is classy.

If not for the trunk, this car
reminds me of a late 1950s

While looking for 1953 Studebaker Commander specifications I found out that the rear end is the second customized feature on the car.

Thanks to the internet, I learned about Continental Kits.  This type of rear-end adds the tire on a base that can be customized to specific types of cars.

This is a photo of a stock 1953 Studebaker
Commander.

I'm glad that I have a stock photo to make comparisons with the car on display here.

Hot Rides On The River Show @ Martinez Lake, Arizona: More Cars

Participants at Hot Rides on the River Show displayed cars from other American manufacturers.

I start this post with the Chevrolets...

1956 Chevrolet Del Ray

These next two cars are a wonderful pair...

Chevrolet's Corvettes are in a league of their own...

Eric and I visited the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky.  It was a wonderful experience on several levels.  The collection of cars is outstanding.  On February 12, 2014, a sinkhole opened up inside the museum and swallowed eight cars.  The museum includes a display on the sinkhole formation and displays several cars that were too badly damaged to be restored.

This Hudson is spectacular!  If it was bright yellow, it would be in a Dick Tracy Comic.

The only Dodge on display...

Jeeps are common in the Southwest.  Here are two...

The last car is a product of Carroll Shelby's devotion to speed and automotive style.

I'm saving the Studebaker for a separate post.  You'll see why...

Hot Rides On The River Show @ Martinez Lake, Arizona: The Fords

Eric always includes Car Shows on "things to do lists" because I love taking pictures of cars and trucks AND Car Shows are great for people watching.  We drove north from Yuma to attend Hot Rides on the River.

The participating cars and trucks are lined up, in rows, in a nearby parking lot.  Of the 75 vehicles on display today, the vast majority are cars.  I've grouped them by the manufacturer.

The late arrival to the Ford blog post is...  The Jaguar.  I knew that Jaguar was a British car and never looked into its current ownership.  Jaguar was acquired by Ford in 1990.  Tata, an Indian car company, bought Jaguar in 2008.

1998 Jaguar XK

I occasionally see a Jaguar while driving and this is my first opportunity to look at this `998 Jaguar XK closely.

The interior is very classy.

I assume that people buy
Jaguars to be seen.

It looks like the driving
experience is very nice.

Ogling cars, people watching AND learning new things.  Hot Rides on the River Show has so much to offer.
