Eric & me at Abraham &
Mary Lincoln's Home
National Historic Site.
This is where the Lincolns lived
when Abraham practiced Law
in Springfield.
The second floor was added
to accommodate the
growing family.
The Front Parlor
Mary Lincoln would
receive visitors in
this room.
The black Horse Hair Chairs belonged to the Lincolns.
Drawings were made of the house
when Lincoln was running for
President in 1860.
They have been invaluable in recreating the 19th Century Lincoln Home.
Abraham Lincoln used
the Back Parlor as a
Home Office.
The Dining Room
An accomplished cook &
baker, Mary Lincoln spent
a lot of time in this room.
The kitchen is the size of the Log Cabin Abraham was born in at Sinking Spring Farm, Kentucky.
This is the room where the
Lincoln Family spent time
together.
Mary's Sewing Cabinet is
under the mirror.
She made all the clothing for the family.
The table has a Stereoscope
& a Chess Set.
The $25.00 Stereoscope was an expensive gift to the Lincoln children Robert, Edward, William, and Thomas.
Abraham Lincoln's
Bedroom
19th Century Bedrooms
included a Wash Stand
with Pitcher & Bowl.
Mary's Bedroom connects
to Abraham's.
The younger boys shared
this room after Robert
left home for college.
Robert Lincoln donated the house to the State of Illinois in 1887 with the stipulation that it would be free for the public to visit.
The Lincoln Home is part of a preserved 19th Century neighborhood.
The Lincoln Home was the
same size as this house
before the second floor
was added.
This Upper Middle Class
neighborhood's homes
are stylish.
The neighborhood helps put
the Lincoln Family's life
in context.
After paying for parking Eric and I head off to another Lincoln Site.
