The Landmark Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota

 The Saint Paul Convention &
 Visitors Bureau is in the

Landmark Center.

Opened in 1902, the Landmark Center was the Federal Building and Post Office serving the upper Midwest.  

I am more interested in the
building than I am in
the Visitor Center.

The five story courtyard
 is beautiful.

For many years, this section of

the building was the Post Office.

The skylight was  roofed over on the inside and painted on the inside.  The marble walls were painted over with green government issued paint.  Brown linoleum and tile covered the maple and mosaic tiled floors.

The Landmark Center
honors its past.

The Landmark center was
 deteriorating in the 1960s.

During this era old, worn buildings were torn down.  Their businesses were moved to the suburbs.  The newly vacant land then used for highways, bridges and parking lots. Saint Paul's leaders and residents chose to restore the Landmark Center and make it the focal point of its downtown.  The building is now used for music, dance, theater, public forums and special events.
