Lucy Webb Hayes'
glassware

Lucy Webb Hayes had this
sideboard made for the private
dining room in the White House.

Many of the plates have animal scenes.  Lucy Webb Hayes chose these dishes to remind the President of his trip through the western US.

The President's youngest children, Fanny
& Scott appeared at a White House dress ball
in March 1880 wearing these costumes.

Fannie's costume is a copy of Martha Washington's gown from a portrait in the White House Gallery.  Scott's costume, an orderly sergeant, was modeled after one in his father's Civil War regiment.

Civil War displays honor President
Hayes' service as a Brevet
Major General during that war.
