Leaving Jerry's house.
Eric and I said our goodbyes to his Mom. She's happy that we are going on a trip, but will miss us.
We decided to take the non-toll
route & start our drive on New
York State Route 7, heading
east to Troy.
This route is one hour longer and a mile or two longer than taking the Massachusetts Turnpike. Eric and I love the views on this drive and have time to reminisce as we drive east.
Welcome to Troy
Home of Uncle Sam
Rensselaer County's
Tomhannock Reservoir.
We slow down for sharp turns
around mountains.
Welcome to Vermont

The road ahead....
We take Vermont Route
279 east to Brattleboro.
The lush tree lines give
way to eastern mountains.
Wind Turbines on the
mountain ridge line
The 8% downward grade has
Runaway Truck Ramps for
trucks that can not slow
down on this steep road.
Everyone wants to negotiate this steep region safely, and no one wants to use this soft bed of gravel to slow down their vehicle.
One of the many reasons Eric
& I are taking an extra hour
to drive to Cape Ann.
The views are beautiful!
Wilmington welcomes
visitors to their small
town.
We drive past the expansive
vista at Pinnacle Point...
... & travel through a tunnel
of trees.
Interstate 91 will take us
south to Massachusetts.
Scarified Pavement...
I'm sooo scared.
Existing pavement is scraped and leveled before the pavers are brought on site.
New asphalt fills in the gaps
made when old pavement
is removed.
Massachusetts Welcomes You
The State Flower is Trailing Arbutus.
The State Bird is Black-Capped
We will leave I-91 for
Massachusetts Route
2 East.
A logging truck, heading west.
I didn't know that logging is Massachusetts industry. When I think of logging in the Northeast, I think of Maine.
No one can consider passing
slow moving vehicles on
this section of road.
This Trucker & Repair Truck
are changing a roadside tire
on this 90 degree day.
The Speed Limit slows to
45 Miles Per Hour as we
pass Corn Fields.
This huge prison sits roadside
& is part of its community.
Prisons are major employers and can be found along busy roads across our country. Clinton Correctional Facility, a Prison in Northern New York abruptly rises from the main street in the Village of Dannemora. Businesses and homes are right across the two lane street that separates the prison from the public.
We take Exit 52B to Interstate 95
North headed toward Peabody.
I-95 North & Massachusetts
Route 128 share the same
roadway.
We have plenty of clearance
beneath the 14 foot 3 inch
bridge.
There's heavy traffic on this
We continue north on
Massachusetts Route 128 as
Interstate 95 North splits off.

Here's our Exit...
We follow the narrow street....
.... to Cape Ann Campsite.
Eric backs into our
Water & Electric
campsite.
Our DirecTV Satellite Dish picks up the TV satellites that we rely on for our favorite shows.
Our view is Jones Salt Marsh
& Gloucester, to the east.
