Sycamore Lodge: A Resort With a History

This is our second stay at the Sycamore Lodge in Jackson Springs, North Carolina.   Eric and I stayed here in late March, 2013.  Our mascot, Gomtuu looked for, and found signs of spring during our first stay.

The Loverings, a Boston family,
purchased the property, that
would become the Sycamore
Lodge, in the early 1900s.

They planted trees along
Sycamore Lane.

The Loverings planned to
 grow Peach Trees here,
but the sandy soil in this
doesn't support this type of tree.

Undeterred, the Loverings decided to farm trees.  Pine, Sycamore, Dogwood, Oak and Magnolia Trees were planted on the property.

The first building on the property

was a barn with living quarters
on the second floor.

It is now the the Registration
Building &...

... the General Store

Sycamore Lodge provides free Wifi to campers.

The Hen House

The family out grew the
quarters above the barn.

The lodge was built
around 1905.

Campers enjoy the buildings and appreciate Petra's stylish interior decoration.

The Pool

The Playground

Basketball Court

Horse Shoe Pits

Shuffle Board Court

Volley Ball Court

The Pavilion with
barbecue grills.

Shovels & a rake are kept
close to the fire pit,

As I walk around the resort,
I see fire extinguishers
mounted on poles.

The campsites sit under pine trees and the ground is littered with pine needles, a very combustible material.  Fire extinguishers are a necessary piece of equipment.

Eric & I are here off season.

Some sections of the resort
 are empty.

This section of the resort has water and electric service.

The lake is stocked
with Bass.

Take a leisurely boat ride
on the lake.

A trail circles the lake.  It's one of several nature trails at the resort.

One of the lakeside
cabins.

The Bath House...

... includes a laundry room.

Eric & I are in a section
with water, electric &
sewer hookups.

Our three week stay here will be very comfortable.
