Day Three: US 50 East to Salina, Utah

Eric waves at me as he pulls
away from our overnight spot

This section of US 50 East
shares its roadbed with

This Nevada Historic Marker is for

Ward flourished from 1876 to  1882,
when Silver was mined in the area.

Silver revitalized Ward again in 1906.

I see more trees as the elevation rises.

A snow-capped mountain looms
above the low-lying terrain.

I ask Eric if that's our road ahead...

He thinks it's too windy to be a
US Route.

Two motorhomes approach from
the bend to the left to confirm
Eric's answer.

Our first wind turbine sighting
along US 50 in Nevada.

The road winds upward...

I almost missed this arch
made of Elk Antlers.

That's a lot of racks!

I love taking pictures of
rugged, snow-dusted
mountains.

We have a stop to make in Hinkley.

Eric & I park at Border Inn Motel
& RV Park to fuel up & get our
America stamped.

This is the only official stamp in our Passport.  I chose to list dates & times of arrival rather than leave US 50 for Visitors Centers in Fallon, Austin, Eureka, and Ely.

Just a hundred feet up US 50
is the Welcome to Utah sign.

This formation is unique on
today's drive.

Gentler slopes are more common
in Western Utah.

Bicyclists stop to look
at the view.

Eric & I drive gravel roads
around farm fields in
Hinkley to get this shot of

He found this roadside oddity on AtlasObscura.com.

Welcome to Delta

Eric & I turn right to continue
on US Route 50.

Eric & I see a number of
small calves in this herd.

Eric turns left to continue East.

I think Scipio is a Roman name...

Scipio Africanus was a Roman
General.

Yuba Lake is in the distance.

This light tan outcrop is dramatically
different from other rock formations
 in the area.

The landscape is full of
darker, smoother looking
hills & mountains.

Reddish soil is exposed as
we continue east.

Eric stops in a pull-off that's
larger than a football field
in Salina.

It's just us & the gently rolling
landscape.

The view from our dining room
window

What's for dinner?
