Getting Exterior Work Done @ CDI Custom Paint in Forest City, Iowa

A fellow RVer waiting for repairs at Winnebago told us about the exterior work he had done on his motorhome at CDI Custom Paint.  He was very pleased with the work he had done and recommended we go there for two exterior issues that we planned on having done in the future.  The company is conveniently located about a mile from Winnebago, and they have some open appointment slots.

Eric talked to Josh about
having our "Ugly Bra" removed
& also about getting some
exterior paintwork done.

What's an Ugly Bra?

It's the dark, crusty looking stuff
on the front of our motorhome
 below the windshield.

3M's protective "Bra" product applied to 2004 - 2006 Vectra motorhomes had a serious flaw.  It cracked and then mold grew into the cracks, creating an "Alligator-like" scaley front end.  Eric removed the Ugly Bra from the section between the souvenir Alaska license plate and the New York State license plate.   The paint beneath is in great condition.  It hasn't been chipped by small stones.

That small section took many hours of work with a heat gun and frequently sharpened plastic chisels.  Ugly Shield Removal in Florida does this type of work all the time and we were putting off this cosmetic work until our next wintertime trip to the state.

3M reconfigured its formula for its protective coating for motorhomes and newer motorhomes experience much less cracking.

Because of Covid 19, Eric and I decided to return to the Southwest for the Winter of 2020 - 2021, further delaying the time of our Ugly Bra Removal.  This is our chance to upgrade the look of our motorhome earlier than we expected.

The 3M Product protects
the backs...

... of our side mirrors...

...  & the space below our
door & above our retractable
steps.
About the exterior paint...

Paint has been wearing off the fiberglass cap above the windshield.
It needs to be redone.

The paint wore off this section
of the upper rear exterior cap,
at the top of our ladder.
