Visiting Border Field State Park, at the Pacific Ocean

Border Field State Park
is closed to vehicles.

Visitors on foot & on
horseback are welcome.

Eric & I take our water bottles
& head out....

The Entry Booth is empty.

There's no need to collect
vehicle fees at this time.

Tourists are warned against
swimming in the Pacific
Ocean due to pollution.

The sign on the right shows the detour to avoid a flooded section of road.  The muddy area is about 50 feet long and about 50 feet across.  My sneakers got a little wet as I tried to skirt the water and muck.

Eric & I follow the sign to
the Monument.

The bathroom in the background is locked.

Scrubby grasses & low growing
bushes cover the hillside.

Looking north up the beach
to Imperial Beach City.

The Picnic Area isn't being
used.

A Park Ranger told me that
this park is very busy in
the summer.

The adjacent restrooms are open.

The stadium is to the left.  Near the lighthouse is Friendship Park, dedicated by Pat Nixon in 1971, and the Boundary Monument.  This area is closed until further notice.  Previously, the mesh-covered fence line has been open on weekends from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, under the watchful eye of the US Border PatrolFamilies have reunited at this Park for years.  They speak, poke fingers through the mesh to touch during their visits.

With some members of the Migrant Caravan reaching Tijuana, Mexico, I assume the new restrictions are part of tightened border security.

Border Patrol personnel watch
the American visitors as they
walk to the beach.

The US/Mexican Border Wall crosses the beach and extends into the Pacific Ocean.

The beach & the Border Wall

A lone pylon stands just past
the end of the wall.

I wanted to come here to see the westernmost border between the United States and Mexico.

Looking up the hill at the
fence & the Border Patrol
truck.

Shiny barbed wire, behind
yellow tape & traffic cones,
keeps American visitors
from approaching the wall.

A Seagull walks along this
quiet beach.

Looking back at the wall & Northwestern Tijuana.

Eric & I collect small
seashells as we walk
up the beach.

The shells are small,
& delicate.
