Erie Islands Resort & Marina Hosts a Disc Golf Tournament

Listings for the first day
of the Disc Tournament.

M2 Disc is here to sell
 discs & towels.

Erie Islands Resort and Marina has been hosting disc golf tournaments since 2010.

A group of three at one
of the disc golf baskets.

Disc golfers from Ohio, Michigan and New York are here to compete.  They use Professional Disc Golf Association rules.

Some competitors have their
discs in backpacks.

The different color discs have different weights,  I think the heavier discs are thrown when players are close to the disc basket.

Some keep all their gear
in strollers.

Many players carry small tripod chairs to sit on while they wait to move on to the next tee,

The player on the left sets up
his shot into the basket as
the player on the right waits.

The first recorded game of golf played with flying discs occurred in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1926.  A formal disc golf association started in the 1970s.  Standardized rules were set up and organized competitions began.

This competitor just released
his disc.

Participants mark their discs
with a name & phone number
so lost ones can be returned.

The competition course
has 21 holes.

Disc golfers are seen all over
the grounds of the resort.

Top players from today's two rounds will advance to the final round of play tomorrow.

Players are camped out
in a nearby field.

Play resumes at 9:00 am tomorrow morning.  After the final round, the winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded.
