Eric Finally Eats at Slick's in Schenectady, New York

Slick's Restaurant and Tavern is a Schenectady institution.  Since 1974 Slick's has been serving the big sandwich.   The sandwiches aren't big, they're HUGE.

Eric was born and raised in Schenectady.  For ten years, Eric worked at the corner of State and Broadway, just a five minute walk from Slick's and yet, he never, ever ate there.  Eric's unfamiliarity with Slick's has become a family joke....  Even I've eaten there and I don't eat out often.

Adam is remedying this woeful situation.  After seeing Interstellar at Bowtie Cinemas Movieland 6, Adam took us to Slick's for a late lunch.

Eric patiently waits by the door
for me as I take this picture.

The bar

The plaque says
Repeal the 18th

The 18th Amendment, ratified on January 16, 1919, banned the manufacture, transportation and sale of alcohol.   There was considerable lawlessness revolving around illegal alcohol. The 21st Amendment ended Prohibition on December 5, 1933.

The walls are covered with
old photos of Schenectady.

We sit at a quiet table
in the corner.

Eric was impressed by the beer menu.  Slick's has a fine selection of beers to try.

Eric is about to
be amazed!

He LOVED his Roast Beef Sandwich.  We talked about Interstellar while we ate.  Adam pointed out similarities between the movie and Isaac Asimov's novel, 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Eric, Adam and I did our best, but in the end the big sandwich was too much for all of us. We each left with half a sandwich to eat later.

Thanks Adam, for bringing
us to Slick's.

Now, Eric can finally say
he's eaten at Slick's.
