Rose Hill Cemetery in Meridian, Mississippi

It has been maintained by Meridian
Masons since 1873.





The oldest graves in this 
hilltop Cemetery date 
to 1853.




Cemetery monument art
fascinates me.

I walked around this monument, taking in its many details.

The epitaph is illeigble.

The tiny grave cover has
the image of an infant.

She was a kind & affectionate wife
& a friend to all.

James T. Ball, Meridian's other founder is also buried in Rose Hill Cemetery.





Many visitors come to the
Cemetery in search of the
Mitchell graves to honor






Emil and his family immigrated from Hungary in 1862.  They kept their language and distinctive Romani culture when they settled in Mississippi.  Locals became suspicious of their new neighbors and referred to them as Gypsies.

On the left: Flora Mitchell, Died on January 8, 1930, Sister of The King.
The middle: Emil Mitchell, Died on October 16, 1942, King of the Gypsies.
On the right: Kelly Mitchell, Wife of Emil,  Died on January 31, 1915, Queen of the Gypsies.






These graves have been
outlined with concrete.




A brick wall surrounds this grave.

It looks like there's room in
the Dabney plot for one
more grave.
