Cruising Around Elliott Bay in Seattle, Washington

Eric and I join fellow tourists on a tour of Elliott Bay on an Argosy Boat Tour, out of Pier 55.

A pic of the Seattle Skyline from our seats on the top deck of our tour boat.

Eric takes a short video of our cruise.

I keep my mask on

open water, & it
gets windy.

We enjoy listening to our Tour Guide talk about points of interest around Elliort Bay.

One of the Gantries at
the Port of Seattle.

It is the fifth busiest port in America.  Filling in marshlands created Harbor Island, the largest man-made island in the US.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer's
Globe is a beloved harbor landmark.

The newspaper closed its print production in 2009 and moved its publication online.  The building was sold to Credit Suisse.  Efforts are underway to move the 13 1/2 ton globe to a new location and light up this spinning glove again.

The Edgewood Hotel
in 1962 in anticipation
of World's Fair
crowds.

It wasn't completed in time to cash in on the World's Fair windfall.  Hotel owners advertised the fact that guests can fish from their waterside windows.  Fishing equipment rentals and bait was sold in the Lobby.  The guests who fished loved the idea.  Some of their neighbors may not have appreciated being woken up by freshly caught fish and octopi slamming against their windows.  What to do with the fish after it's caught?  Guests started hiding them in their rooms and the Housekeeping Staff was not amused.

Planning for The Beatles 1964 Concert included security concerns.  In other cities, the band had visited fans chased John, Paul, George, and Ringo from the concert venues, surrounding their car so it couldn't move into traffic, tried to get into their hotel rooms by trickery, etc.

The owner of The Edgewater Hotel offered his building for their stay because it is surrounded on three sides by water.  The fans would leave the Fab 4 alone during their stay in Seattle.

Beatle Fans are very persistent.  Fans swam across Elliott Bay to the hotel, others rented boats in an effort to see and spend time with their teenage heartthrobs.  Band members enjoyed fishing from their rooms.

All too soon our cruise was over.  Eric and I leave the boat for more sightseeing in Seattle.
