The Last Mississippi River Post: Driving to the End of the Road in Louisiana, Venice
The Mississippi River flows southeast from New Orleans to the Gulf of Mexico. Eric and I drive Louisiana Highway 23 South 76 miles to Venice. It is the farthest south along the River that can be reached by car.
From Venice, the Mississippi River continues southeast to the Gulf. https://www.experiencemississippiriver.com/pdf/EMR-Detailed-Map.pdf
Eric & I are at the southernmost point in the Gulf.
We drove about 1,600 miles in 12 days following the Mississippi River south from its headwaters at Lake Itasca, Minnesota to the southernmost point in Venice, Louisiana. It was a wonderful drive and we recommend The Great River Road to anyone interested in making the drive.
Driving Southeast to Harvey Louisiana
Eric and I are driving to Harvey, South of New Orleans and will cross the Mississippi River.
