I took this picture of Davis Dam from Nevada State Route 163, miles before the turnoff.
The dam is located north of
It spans Pyramid Canyon.
It's 67 miles downstream from the Hoover Dam. The reservoir created by Davis Dam (left of the photo) is Lake Mohave.
The entry to Colorado River
The river below the dam is
a popular recreation site.
A closer look at the earth-fill
dam, spillways & power station
(right side)
Construction started in 1942 and ended in 1950. The dam rises 140 feet above the river. The reservoir created upstream is Lake Mohave.
Closer still...
This view shows the concrete
stucture & spillways.
There's lots of greenspace for
for public use.
The Southwest is in a multi-year drought. Recent reporting on the capacity of manmade lakes in the West shows that water levels are expected to shrink to historic lows that could trigger a Federal declaration shortage in Nevada and Arizona.
Residents have been encouraged to conserve water for years. Industrial farming is a major consumer of water. I will continue to look for articles on how Arizona handles this limited resource and how the state economy manages water-related changes in the future.
