Driving Along Huntersland Road in Middleburgh, New York

Eric turned off of Route 30
onto Huntersland Road
in Middleburgh.

He hunted for deer in this

area three decades ago.

This area is quiet
& remote.

The gnarly tree trunk points

the way deeper into

 the woods.

We drive beneath trees.

Fallen leaves hide

sharp shale stones.

Houses have been built on these remote, little used roads.

A rooster crosses the 

road near one of the

new homes.

We enter Albany County

as we head for home.

There's a wonderful assortment

of plants & pumpkins here.

locally grown vegetables.

Leaf Peeping Along Interstate 88 From Rotterdam to Schoharie, New York

Interstate 88 connects the Southern Tier to Albany, New York State's capital.








The Sumac near Exit 25,
Rotterdam, is aflame.

Not all the trees are in

full autumn color.

This section of road is
being repaved.

Eric thought the color

would be washed out.

This is a lovely drive.

Eric is leaving Interstate 88

at Exit 23, Schoharie.

Houses With Additions in Jerry's Neighborhood

Many houses in Jerry's
neighborhood have
dormers.

The trim line on houses tells

the story of an addition.

The original lines of the

house are outlined in

white trim.

The addition on this house
is off the back of the home.

I think that the side porch

is an addition.

I'm not sure what the
original house looked
like.

The left side of this

house is an addition.

 

The upstairs porch was
enclosed to add space
to the upper flat.

The stairway makes me wonder

if the upstairs is an apartment.

This house has a second
dormer on the back
addition.

There are a lot of ways to expand space in a home.   From what I've seen, the roof line doesn't lie...

Walking Around Jerry's Neighborhood in Rotterdam, New York

My mother-in-law, Jerry, lives in a Rotterdam neighborhood several blocks from City of Schenectady.










According to Zillow.com,
Jerry's home was built
in 1916.

This two family house was

built in 1936.

The darker siding on the
front of this house
caught my eye.

I noticed several design elements of an Arts and Crafts, or Craftsman style house.  The low pitched roof, wide eaves and exposed roof rafters are some of the external elements of this type of home.

The shrubbery planted close

to the house obscures

many of the house's features.

This house is in need
of repair.

Some homes, like this one,

have multiple additions.

Some of the newer homes

are ranches.

There are a few raised ranches

 in the neighborhood.

A growing number of houses

have solar panels.
