The Three Hour Drive Northeast to Enterprise, Alabama

The long, slow drive north starts today...  Eric and I are driving three hours to Enterprise, Alabama.

We leave Orange Beach
& drive east.

Flora-Bama Lounge is named
for Florida & Alabama.

Welcomes us.

Perdido Bay empties into
the Gulf of Mexico.

Eric planned today's drive on
County, State & US Routes.

We are avoiding Interstates.

Florida State Road 173
continues through
suburban areas.

is next to Able Auto Repair.

Eric tells me about the
specifications he worked
with when designing
Mast Arms at the NYS
Department of Transportation.

The recommended configuration for traffic lights on Mast Arms is vertical placement.  Color Blind people know that Red is on the top of a traffic light, Yellow is the middle color & Green is the bottom color.  There may be confusion as to red and green light locations when the traffic light is mounted horizontally.

We speculate about why the traffic lights are mounted horizontally.  Maybe the decision was make because of high winds in this region of the country..... we'll never know.

This bridge's clearance is
14 feet 6 inches.

Our 12 foot 4 inch motorhome
 will easily fit beneath this
 bridge.

Several times during our travels, we've missed signs for bridge clearances.  Eric received a ticket because our motorhome blocked traffic as he unhitched our Jeep and turned it around because at 12 feet, 4 inches, it was too tall to negotiate the 11 foot 9 inch viaduct in Olympia Fields, Illinois.

We missed a detour sign in Pennsylvania and had to turn around because we weren't able to negotiate an 8 foot two inch bridge.

A handful of RVs are
camped waterside.

Groups gather outside after
Easter Mass at a church
in Milton.

A local Police Officer is
directing traffic.

Eric & I admire the 19th
century street scene painted
on the side of this building.

I think it's ironic that the Lamplighter is obscured by a street lamp.
