It's Cold & Blustery on Ocracoke Island, North Cartolina

The sky is grey.

Rain is on the way.

The boat launch

I"m happy to see a

receptacle for 

monofilament.

This thin fishing line

is hazardous to

sea life. 

This is a beautiful,

restful setting.

Fort Ocracoke lies
beneath the waves.

Ocracoke Inlet was guarded by an earthen work fort, built on Beacon Island,  in the spring of 1861, at the beginning of the Civil War.   After the fort on Hatteras was taken by Union troops in August, 1861, Fort Ocracoke was abandoned.  Union soldiers set fire to the guns and ammunition.  The fire destroyed the fort.  Beacon Island and the remains of Fort Ocracoke were above water until 1933, when the island was submerged by a hurricane in 1933.

Eric and I are parked near trailers, boat trailers, trucks and a van.   The parking lot looks like it's used for storage.

And, here comes the rain....
