I love the turret
on this building.
A fire swept through the Kingston waterfront in 1840, destroying much of the homes and businesses constructed of wood. Regulations were developed that ensured that reconstructed Kingston would be made of non flammable materials. Limestone is abundant in the area and the building material of choice.
Many of the oldest buildings
in the city are constructed
with limestone.

As a waterfront city, Kingston saw the transit of all kinds of goods through this part
of Ontario.
