St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 in New Orleans

About a block from The French Quarter RV Resort is St. Louis Cemetery No.1.  Eric and I walk past it every day on our way to and from the French Quarter.  It was closed on Monday and Tuesday.  This morning, it's open.  Oh boy, I love visiting cemeteries.

This cemetery opened in
the late 1700s.

There's a constant
need of renovation.

The metal fence in front
of the tomb protects the
family marker.

There's just enough space for an
adult to wiggle into the cemetery.

We saw a man drinking in the
cemetery on Lundi Gras
.

This section of wall is
being repaired.

There isn't a lot of space
between crypts.

This may be the first existing
section of wall burial vaults.

Lloyd Watson from The Inkspots was
buried here on October 23, 2004.

This tomb has many
offerings.

One of several pyramids.
The only clue is Omnia Ab Uno.
(Everything from one.)

Several tombs have newer granite
markers.  Most have marble markers.

I wonder why somevaults
are "adopted" and others are not.

St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 is a small cemetery.  There were several groups of people walking around and taking pictures of this historic place.

  1. The pyramid tomb belongs to Nicholas Cage, the actor. Don't believe it? Google it.
