The Battleship USS Alabama at Mobile, Alabama

The USS Alabama is easily seen
on the Mobile waterside.

It's 680 feet long & 108 feet wide
& 194 feet tall.

Commissioned in 1942, the USS Alabama is one of four South Dakota Class battleship.
The assigned crew had 127 officers and 2,205 men.

Three 16 inch 45 caliber guns

One of the gun batteries
located on the side of
the ship.

I took this picture from the
bow of the ship.

With over 2,000 men on board, this ship is a floating city.  The crew has to be fed.
Bunks are everywhere.  There's a kitchen, bakery, laundry, activity room,
doctor's office, hospital, dental office and so much more.
Hey, where's the engine room?

There's room for ammunition of all sizes.  The ammunition has to be moved to gun batteries.

The shells are as tall
as Eric.

The USS Alabama was decommissioned in 1947 and assigned to reserve duty.
The ship was retired in 1962.  In 1965 the USS Alabama Museum was
opened and added to the National Landmark Registry in 1966.
