Eric & I Go to The Luau Kalamaku on Kauai, the Northern Most Hawaiian Island

The Garden Island

Luau Kalamaku is a very popular event for tourists to attend.  Eric and I spent the evening enjoying Hawaiian Foods, Hula Dancing, Fire Twirling, and more at Kilohana Plantation.

Eric & I got Leied.  He got a second Lei made out of shells.  I received a Kukui Nut Lei.

Kalamaku

Eric and I joined four other couples at a table for our Luau Feasr and the Show.  Everyone was so busy chatting that I forgot to get photos of our dinner.  The Buffet Style Menu included Butter Garlic Vegetables, Teriyaki Chicken, Kalua Pork, Hawaiian Macaroni Salad, Steamed Jasmine Rice, locally caught Fish, and Poi in tiny plastic containers.  It is available on request. 

Poi is cooked and ground Taro Root.  It is a sacred food to Hawaiians.  The consistency of my Poi was smooth, like Yogurt.  Fresh Poi is very mild.  As it ages, Poi ferments and becomes sour, like non-dairy Yogurt.  It is eaten with salty, flavorful foods like Pork, Chicken, or Fish.  

Our table was set with carafes of water.  The drinks provided are alcoholic and non-alcoholic Rum Punch, Mai Tai, and Blue Hawaiians.  Eric and I tried all three alcoholic drinks and agreed that we preferred the Mai Tai.  

Our dinner was amazing!  Each dish was carefully prepared and very flavorful.  I added my Poi to my Kalua Pork and ate like a local. Eric and I enjoyed all three of the desserts: Pineapple Upsidedown Cake, Banana Cream Tart, and Haupia (Coconut Pudding) which reminded me of Flan without the Caramel Topping.

Everyone at our table enjoyed our meal.

We agree that the Polynesian Story of Crossing the Ocean and building lives on a new Island is beautiful.

We bid our dinner mates Aloha before boarding a bus to return to The Pride of America.
