Eric and I paid $30.00 to enter the Grounds, which is on Private Property.  It is run by The Crazy Horse Memorial Board of Directors and the Ziolkowski Family.

the original sculptor of the

A self-taught Sculptor, Ziolkowski was asked by Standing BearChief of the Lakota to design and sculpt the Crazy Horse Memorial, honoring Crazy Horse, the revered Lakota Warrior and Leader.

The  Sculptor's Model

Ziolkowski worked on the Memorial from 1948 until his death in 1982.  His widow, Ruth continued his work and now the children continue their father's work.

their oral traditions.

The Ziolkowski Family and the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation Board of Directors guide the Monument's ongoing, slow progress.  Crazy Horse's face was revealed in 1998.  The Memorial, the largest statue in the world, remains a work in progress 73 years later.
