Downtown Pender, Nebraska

Eric and I like to walk around downtown areas when we are traveling.  Some, like Heritage Square in  Phoenix, have become preserved, historic districts. The Stockade in Schenectady  Some are listed on the National Register of Historic Places like The Stockade in Schenectady.  Most are a mix of older buildings from the late 1800s to 1900s with modern, mid to 1900s buildings mixed in.  

Downtown Pender is

like most downtowns.

It's a mix of old & 

newer buildings.

I don't know how old this building is.

There's no cornerstone with a date of

 construction to provide information.

The roofline of the Ace Hardware

Store shows that it was originally

two buildings.

The left side of the building has cornice work made of bricks.  The right side of the building's roofline is smooth.  Brickwork has been used to decorate the upper portion of the building.

To the left of the Ace Store is the

Tin Ceiling Square.

have been built in the 1930s.

The upper windows have been boarded up and the first floor has been reconfigured for a mix of businesses.

is on the side of the building.

This facade of this building is

being renovated.

It currently houses the Nebraska

Department of Health & Human

Services.

This is not the first renovation

the building has undergone.
