Northeast to Descanso, California (The Long Way Around)

If only the mountains weren't in the way....

Eric & I are driving northwest to
Interstate 8 before heading
east to Descanso.

There is a northeastern route to Descanso on very windy roads.  Eric and I decided to drive our motorhome, towing a Jeep (totaling 55 feet in length), on the least curvy roads to Rancho San Diego and take the highway east.

This choice was made because
one section of today's drive has
signs stating that vehicles over
40 feet should seek other routes.

Heading west toward San Diego....

It's a pretty day for a drive.

We turn onto The Freeway,
Interstate 8.

The lighting is pretty.

Rain is expected.

at passersby.

Sometimes an RVer has
a breakdown.

I hope the tire repair/replacement
goes smoothly.

The sky clears up as Eric
& I drive north, into a
strong wind area.

Here's our exit to Descanso.

California State Route 79 winds
through the mountains, providing
panoramic views.

A "shelf" was cut from the
mountainside for this
road.

The view is amazing!

The sign for Thousand Trails
a tight turn to enter the
campground from the south.

Eric and I know about this turn and that our motorhome, towing our Jeep, will not negotiate it without moving into the oncoming lane and have a plan.

We continue north...

... to a large turn off about a mile
& a half to the north.

I unhitch our Jeep and give Eric the signal to head out.

I follow Eric back to
Oakzanita Springs RV
Campground.

The driveway has easy to
access from the north.

Eric registers at the
Security Booth.

We settle in for our stay.

We have water and 50 amp electric service with very good voltage.  There is no sewer hookup here.  Eric and I will be watching our water usage carefully during our 10-day stay to avoid paying for a pump out.  The DirecTV Dish is providing TV access.

After lunch Eric and I will explore the campground.
