Lavaca Historic District in San Antonio, Texas

One of my many interests is architecture.  Lavaca Historic District is an area of San Antonio with small, single family homes built in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Many of the original
owners were German.

This working class section of San Antonio was populated predominantly by small business owners and craftsmen.

This house has few
decorative elements.

home is beautifully
maintained.

This house stands out because
of its oval window in the front
door & side lights.

Combined with the porch rails and lattice work at ground level, this house looks elegant.

The red trimmed storm windows
 are eye catching.

Fortunately, this neighborhood
has survived urban renewal
& land reuse.

Just a few blocks away is the King William Historic District, known for its large, stately homes.
