Strolling Around Old Town Albuquerque, New Mexico

Spanish colonists were granted permission from King Phillip of Spain to establish a city (villa) on the Rio Grande River in Central New Mexico in 1706.

when it was founded in 1706.







Governor Valdes named the city Albuquerque to honor Francisco Fernandez de Cueva, the 10th Duke of Alburquerque.
